The National Investigative Agency (NIA) conducted raids on 19 locations in Assam and 4 other states including the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir in connection with a case linked to the radicalisation of individuals linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), a Pakistan-based jihadist terrorist group.
The other 4 states where raids were conducted are –Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and Gujarat.
In Jammu and Kashmir, raids were conducted in 4 districts- Baramulla, Reasi, Budgam and Anantnag.
The operation focuses on the dissemination of terrorist propaganda and efforts to counter extremist activities.
An NIA official confirmed that the raids are part of an ongoing effort to dismantle radicalisation networks and said more details will be shared soon.
These fresh raids follow leads uncovered after questioning Sheikh Sultan Salah Uddin Ayubi, also known as Ayubi, who was arrested two months ago during a coordinated raid at 26 locations across Assam, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, and Jammu and Kashmir.
Ayubi was apprehended for his involvement in a conspiracy case and evidence collected during his questioning, along with documents seized in previous raids, prompted today’s operation.
Following the earlier operation, several suspects were rounded up for questioning.
NIA teams had seized incriminating documents, electronic devices, pamphlets, and magazines, which pointed to a network engaged in radicalising individuals linked to JeM.
The NIA stated that the suspects were actively disseminating terrorist-related propaganda and recruiting youth into the Jamaat outfit inspired by JeM.
