Assam: LLT rebel arrested in Cachar district

The arrested rebel has been identified as 28-year old Seiminthang alias Alex Gangte hailing from Jinam Ghat in Dima Hasao.

The Assam Police has intensified the crackdown on terror elements. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, a self-styled rebel of the Liberation Tigers of Tribals (LTT) was arrested at the Hari Nagar area under the Joypur Police station of Lakhipur in Cachar district.

The arrested rebel has been identified as 28-year old Seiminthang alias Alex Gangte hailing from Jinam Ghat in Dima Hasao. SP Cachar Numal Mahatta said he is in talk with the Manipur counterpart and joint search operations are going on in the Assam-Manipur bordering area. The LTT rebel had come from Dima Hasao and was planning to move to Manipur. Not only, a plan was also hatched by the rebel group to settle camp in the valley for the purpose of kidnapping, extortion and other illegal activities.

As per inputs, the outfit was formed in 2018 and since then cadres are involved in kidnapping, killing, illegal tax collection etc. Recently 12 cadres of the outfit including chairman and dy chairman surrendered before Manipur Chief Minister on 29th July 2022.
