In one of the biggest drug haul so far, the Assam Police has seized narcotics worth over Rs 40 crore in Cachar district.
Acting on specific inputs, a team of Special Task Force (STF) and Cachar Police intercepted a car coming from a neighbouring state last night.
Upon frisking the vehicle, the narcotics consignment was recovered which was concealed in secret chambers of the vehicle.
3 persons were arrested in connection with the case.
The seizure includes 2.5 kg heroin and 1 lakh Yaba tablets.
Additional DIG (STF) Partha Sarathi Mahanta led the operation leading to the successful recovery of the drugs. Speaking to Northeast Live, DIG Mahanta said,”This is actually an ongoing war against drugs which is continuing since more than 2 years after the new government came to power and clear instructions given by the Chief Minister. This was a joint operation of the STF and Cachar Police. The Cachar Police has been playing a very important role in the war against drugs.
This is a good catch. The seizure includes 2.5 kg of heroin and 1 lakh Yaba tablets. We have caught 3 people. The price of the consignment is more than Rs 40-45 crore in the international market. Further invesitgation will reveal more.”
“The consignment was heading towards mainland India,” Mahanta added.
