Decision to reconstitute Police Station Committees after botched up probe in the Dhula minor death case.
REPORTED BY ARINDAM DAS
Assam government is going to reconstitute police station committees for maintaining better relations between the police and the Public. The decision was taken yesterday during a cabinet meeting.
Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live Chief of Bureau Arindam Das, Assam cabinet minister Jayanta Malla Barua admitted that the decision to reconstitute the police station committees was taken in view of the recent matter of botched up probe in the Dhula minor death case
Barua said that the step is being taken so that people dont have any sort of apprehension while approaching the police to file their complaints. He further said that the reconstitution of the police station committees would ensure that no investigation is brushed under the carpet.
CID Assam Police had cracked the sensational death case of the 13-year old girl in Dhekiajuli. It was Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s clear directive to the police to re-investigate the case after he suspected something wrong with the feedback given by the then Darrang SP.
Accordingly, a member CID team led by Investigating Officer (IO) Ariful Haque swung into action and began to probe the matter again. In fact, Chief Minister Sarma and DGP BhaskarJyoti Mahanta had visited the victim’s family.
Subsequent probe had established that there was no evidence which confirms that the body was brought down from the position of hanging.
Soon the investigating team accessed crucial leads after collecting scientific evidences and post-mortem. In the 2nd post mortem report, it was clear that the victim was subjected to sexual assault, before being thrashed brutally in her head and neck causing her death.
CID officials informed that the accused had confessed of sexually assaulting and strangulating the victim to death, after she warned of informing the incident to her family members and the wife of the accused.
