In a proud moment, three youths from Assam, including a woman, successfully climbed Mt. Hanuman Tibba, the highest peak of the Dhauladhar Range in Himachal Pradesh.
Mt. Hanuman Tibba is the highest mountain peak in Kangra district and lies on the Dhauladhar Range in Himachal Pradesh, with an altitude of 5,982 meters (19,626 feet) above sea level. It lies to the Northwest of Manali and to the East of Solang.
Sarporaj Hojai, Rajeshree Khersa, Biswajyoti Hojai from Dima Hsasao, and Biswajit Roy from Goalpara were among eleven members of the Dima Hasao Adventure Association who advanced for the Mt. Hanuman Tibba peak, however, Biswajyoti Haloi from Goalpara could not proceed further from a Summit Camp at over 18,000 ft due to a sudden illness.
The expedition was flagged off by Dima Hasao Autonomous Council’s CEM, Debolal Gorlosa, on June 18.
The journey started on June 20 from Haflong to Delhi and Manali to Dhundi.
The team started their trekking for the peak on June 23rd at 11 am via Bakartach on a 5-hour walk to base camp and on June 25th at 4.45 am forward to Camp 1 via Thenthu Pass on an 11-hour walk.
On the June 26, the team stayed at Camp 1 due to gloomy weather and reached Summit Camp on the June 27.
Finally, on the 28th, the team trekked for the summit and reached the peak and successfully hoisting the Tri Color, Assamese Gamocha, and Dimasa’s Risa (Traditional muffler) at 19626 ft above sea level.
The team safely ascended and reached Manali town on June 30.
Ditujit Kemprai, DHAA secretary, said they feel very proud that they are the first organisation to send a team to an expedition from the district and also the first to come out successful.
“We hope that our team will summits more peaks in coming days and more youths from our district will come up,” the DHAA secretary said.
Rajasree Khersa, Dima Hasao’s first woman mountaineer, said that she feels lucky enough to get the opportunity to join the expedition right after her Advance Mountaineering Course.
“Climbing Mountain is not only reaching the top and posing for a picture. It’s lot more than that, one cannot climb mountain just for fun, it demands everything from you be it energy or attitude. I have heard a lot from seniors, instructors and sources that accidents happen during descend and it is lot more safe ascending, and this is what I experienced this time and get to know the actual cost and fact that why do those really occur during descend.” Said Khersa.
“I am glad that me and my team are successful in summiting the peak and we are back guardedly.” She added.
