Real show of Unity in Diversity: Sikkim CM attends Gujarat’s Ghed Festival as Guest of Honour

Madhavpur Ghed Fair is a celebration to commemorate and honour North East India’s cultural, spiritual, and social unity with Gujarat

Chief Minister, Prem Singh Tamang, attended the Madhavpur Ghed Festival 2023 as the chief guest of the programme held at Madhavpur Ghed, Porbandar in Gujarat on Sunday.

Madhavpur Ghed Fair is a celebration to commemorate and honour North East India’s cultural, spiritual, and social unity with the Far West Region of India in Gujarat. The fair is a celebration of the marriage between Lord Krishna and Rukmani, who belonged to the Mishmi Tribe of Arunachal Pradesh.

The renowned king Bhishmaka, who was Rukmani’s father and Lord Krishna’s father-in-law, is believed to be the ancestor of the Mishmi Tribe. The festival honours Rukmani’s trip with Lord Krishna from Arunachal Pradesh to Gujarat.

Chief Minister Tamang also visited the Dwarkadish Temple and Nageshwar Jyotirling, in Dwarka.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang expressed the he is grateful to be part of the festival and experience the vibrant culture on display with the rich traditional heritage of Gujarat and the Northeast.

He said that the initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to unite the country through cultural exchange by promoting the spirit of Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat is exemplary and highly commendable.

The Chief Minister extended his gratitude to the Governor of Gujarat, Acharya Devvrat, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, and the Government of Gujarat for their warm hospitality.

During the event, many cultural performances were presented by performing artists from the North Eastern States and Gujarat.
The representative troupe from Sikkim performed Singhi Chaam and Yak Chaam dances.
