Pan Arunachal Joint Steering Committee wants swearing in of APPSC’s newly appointed Chairman postponed

The Committee is also conducting a mass protest on February 16 and 17

In a new development in the APPSCE paper leak case, the Pan Arunachal Joint Steering Committee today submitted a memorandum to the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh in regard to their previous demands and against the appointment of the APPSC’s new chairman and its members.

In its representation, the committee wrote that the newly appointed Chairman, Lieutenant General (Retd) Shantanu Dayal, who is 61 years old, is on the verge of retirement in one year, whereas the retirement age or tenure of the Chairman and members of the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) is 6 years or 62 years of age, whichever comes earlier. The committee raised concern that the newly appointed chairman will have no time to understand the system or to cleanse it, saying it is an insult to the already chaotic state of the APPSC.

The representation also read that the appointment of the Chairman and members of the APPSC, instead of being reformative initiatives, looked more like an attempt to conduct the examinations shortly and impose the age-old “Divide and Rule” tactics to completely sabotage the movement against the unprecedented nexus of organised crime.

The committee has demanded to immediately postpone the oath-taking ceremony scheduled to be held on February 17 and re-examine the shortlisted members and chairman of APPSC.

They have also demanded the appointment of a full-time chairman with the capability to complete six years of tenure.

One of the committee members of the Pan Arunachal Joint Steering Committee speaking to Northeast Live said, “The new APPSC chairman that is appointed, his oath-taking ceremony that is scheduled on the 17th, regarding this we have an observation and apprehensions. In fact, we have put forward our apprehensions in front of the government, saying that whatever reformations come, we welcome them, but if you are coming up with something else under the name of reformations, that is not acceptable. For example, we are concerned about the chairman who has been appointed here because he is 62 years old and a retired Lieutenant General (Retd). The term for chairman is 63 years. In one year, he is going to be retired. So our question is, if the tenure is six years, why are you appointing a chairman whose tenure is one year? The other concern is that only the replacement of members in the hierarchy is not “overhauling.”

The Committee is also conducting a mass protest on February 16 and a mass movement on February 17.
