Arunachal Pradesh has the highest prevalence of stomach and liver cancer, informed State Nodal Officer of Cancer Control Program

In a big boost for cancer care in Arunachal Pradesh, Health Minister Alo Libang flagged off 3 mobile cancer screening vans for East Siang, Papum Pare and Tirap districts.

Equipped with modern healthcare facilities, the launching of the vehicles is definitely expected to go a long way in early diagnosis and subsequent follow-up treatment of the disease.

Speaking on the occasion, Health Minister Alo Libang said, “Now only 3 vehicles are available, in the days to come more such screening vehicles will be launched for other districts. The vehicles are equipped to conduct ultrasound and endoscopy. There are 2 chambers, and two doctors will be readily avaiable in both the chambers.”

State Nodal Officer of Cancer Control Program Sem Tsering informed that the pattern of cancer prevalence in the state is different in comparison to other parts of the nation.

He said, “the cancer incidence in Arunachal Pradesh is quite high and the pattern of prevalence in our state is totally different as compared to other states. Our state has a high prevalence of stomach and liver cancer, but in the rest of the states it is nothing like that.”

“In terms of Stomach and liver cancer, 44% patients are male and females constitute 23%. The main problem is that the cases are detected at a late stage and curing it becomes very difficult. So the screening vehicles have been launched so that the disease can be detected at an early stage and prompt treatment can be done,” Sem Tsering further said.
