In a significant development, the Itanagar bench of the Gauhati High Court has declared the 2019 Assembly election result for Tezu Assembly constituency null and void, thereby invalidating the victory of Independent candidate Karikho Kri and disqualify.
The court made the procurement under sections 100(1) (b), 100(I)(a)(I), and (IV) of the Representative of People Act, 1951.
Kri had won the Tezu seat by narrowly defeating the BJP’s Mahesh Chai in the 2019 assembly polls.
The Gauhati High Court Itanagar bench made the judgment following a petition filed by then-Congress candidate Nuney Tayang challenging the poll result.
The counsel of Nuney Tayang has written to the speaker of the Arunachal Legislative Assembly, informing him about the court judgment and seeking necessary action in this regard.
When contacted, MLA Karikho Kri said that he is yet to receive a copy of the court order and refused to make any statement on the matter.
