Arunachal activist Sol Dodum fears re-arrest, says Govt ‘playing dirty games’. Is he now in hiding?

First Published: 10th June, 2023 18:21 IST

Dodum said that FIRs against him and others have been filed in several police stations. Dodum has remained untraceable since last night

Just when we thought that the high drama around the release of high profile detainees like Arunachal activist Sol Dodum got over with their release last night, an explosive video released by Sol Dodum has again put the spotlight back on the whole issue and has forced people to wonder what is actually going on.

Dodum, in the video that he shared last night after his release from detention of a month, said that he and a few others could be re-arrested any time as FIRs have been filed in several police stations of the state. He accused the government of ‘playing dirty games’. He said that the government had earlier said that no FIRs would be lodged against any of them but now FIRs have been filed in different police stations.

While Dodum urged everyone to not give bandh calls and not indulge in any kind of violence, the rights activist who had earlier raised his voice against alleged corruption in the functioning of the state government, said that he has not given up and his fight against corruption continues. He sought the support of the people of the state.

Noteworthy to mention here that Dodum has remained untraceable since his release last night.

Meanwhile, Dodum’s lawyer, Advocate Reken Ingo, told Northeast Live that he will be moving the Sessions Court for anticipatory bail of Sol Dodum and other detainees for granting pre-arrest bail so that the police cannot re-arrest them.
The Advocate informed that they have challenged the detention order passed on May 8 by the district magistrate against Sol Dodum and his associates on the proposed 72-hour Itanagar bandh call.
“The detainees, including Sol Dodum and his associate, have been released by the district magistrate, but we have already challenged the detention order passed on May 8 2023, by the district magistrate and the subsequent order passed on May 16, 2023, by the principal secretary home,” Advocate Reken Ingo said. The hearing is scheduled for June 15.
The advocate also informed that some of the detainees who filed for anticipatory bail was granted the bail.
However, there are some cases where anticipatory bail is yet to be moved. “We are planning to move very soon,” Advocate Reken Ingo said.
As per Sol Dodum’s advocate, there are eight FIRs registered in different police stations in Itanagar against Sol Dodum and some of the detainees.
Some of the FIRs were registered on February 17 and 18. There was a mass protest led by the Pan Steering Joint Committee, and a few of the FIRs were registered recently on the 12th of May.

The Itanagar administration on Friday evening released all 41 detainees, including activist Sol Dodum, who were detained under the provisions of the Arunachal Pradesh Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (APUAPA) on May 8–9 to prevent any law and order situation during the 72-hour bandh called by certain individuals and groups from May 10–12 to protest the APPSC scam.
