Nagaland: 2 youths abducted by NSCN-K (Angi Mai) from Mon rescued

In a sigh of relief, two youths who were abducted by the Myanmar-based NSCN-K (Angi Mai) faction from Nagaland’s Mon district were rescued by the Assam Rifles, a statement from the Assam Rifles said.

The youths were abducted by armed cadres of the militant outfit on the intervening night of 15-16 December, the statement said.

The Assam Rifles statement issued on Sunday said that following the incident, a team of Assam Rifles launched a search and rescue operation on December 16 tracking the armed cadres.

On December 17, the team intercepted the cadres in a jungle near Nyasa and Wetting village along the Indo Myanmar Border.

A gunfight also took place between the militant outfit and Assam Rifles, when the cadres ran away, leaving behind the two kidnapped individuals and also a huge quantity of arms, ammunition and a warlike stores, the statement added.
