Nagaland CM announces corpus fund worth Rs 1 cr for disabled people

CM Rio also announced that two rehabilitation centres will also be set up in Mon and Tuensang districts.
In a big announcement for the upliftment and welfare of the disabled people of Nagaland, Chief Minister Neiphui Rio on Saturday announced a corpus fund of Rs one crore for people with disabilities.
The amount will be sanctioned in the next budget session.
The Chief Minister made the announcement at the launch of Disability Pride Fair 2023.
Addressing the programme, CM Rio said that the fund can be utilized as capital and its earnings can be used for other activities of the disability people.
Rio acknowledged that the State still had a lot to do for the disabled community and announced the formation of a State Level Committee to look into their welfare. The State Chief Secretary would serve as the committee’s chairman, and members will come from various other departments.
He also announced that two rehabilitation centres will also be set up in Mon and Tuensang districts.
Taking to X, CM Rio wrote, “Attended Disability Pride Fair to commemorate International Day of Persons with Disabilities. Let us champion inclusivity, break barriers & empower every individual to thrive. We must recognise the resilience, achievements & contributions of people with disabilities worldwide.”
Rio lauded the State Commissioner for persons with disabilities, Diethono Nakhro, under whose leadership the Fair is being held. The Disability Pride Fair 2023 is being held to commemorate International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
The Fair is an inclusive platform to recognize the unwavering determination of individuals with disabilities and to promote their active inclusion in society. By focusing on their abilities and contributions, this fair seeks to challenge stereotypes and foster a more inclusive and understanding community. It also serves as a platform to raise awareness about disability issue.
The Fair holds immense significance for individuals with disabilities, their families and the wider community. The event today has send a powerful message of solidarity, acceptance, and the shared belief that everyone has a valuable role to play in building a more inclusive society.
It was truly a disability pride fair in every sense of the word as this empowering initiative featured a comprehensive display and sale of handicraft items, skillfully made by individuals with disabilities, underscoring their entrepreneurial spirit, and their ability to triumph over adversities.
The fair celebrated of who they are by highlighting the incredible talents, creativity, and resilience of individuals with disabilities.
