Mizoram counting date change: ECI to meet NGO’s delegation on Nov 28

A delegation of NGO Coordination Committee (NGOCC) have been camping in New Delhi since Thursday to meet Election Commission officials

Representatives of NGO Coordination Committee (NGOCC), who are currently in New Delhi to meet Election Commission officials to press for their demand to reschedule the counting date in Mizoram said that ECI officials have agreed to meet them on November 28 at 3 P.M.

It may be mentioned here that political parties in Mizoram, civil society organisations and church bodies have been requesting the Election Commission of India (ECI) to reschedule the counting day to December 4 or 5 instead of December 3 as it falls on a Sunday, while is a sacred day for the majority Christians in the state.

The NGOCC delegation that includes Lalhmachhuana, President, Central Young Mizo Association (CYMA), Prof. Malsawmliana, General Secretary, CYMA, Lalbiakmawia Khiangte, Vice-president of Mizo Elders’ Association, H. Lalthianghlima, President of Mizo Zirlai Pawl, and Lalrampanmawia, Finance Secretary of Mizo Students Union had left for Delhi on Thursday.

NGOCC is an umbrella body of major civil society and student organisations of Mizoram.

Voting for the 9th 40-member Mizoram Assembly was held on November 7.
