Minister Kipgen said that Chongtham Bijoy Singh must retract his baseless statement and tender an apology publicly within 48 hours for spreading false information
Manipur’s Textile, Commerce, Industry, and Cooperation Minister Nemcha Kipgen warned of filing a slander suit against former chief spokesperson of the BJP Chongtham Bijoy Singh for his alleged false statement on the minister in a local television news channel.
The Minister said that Chongtham Bijoy Singh must retract his baseless statement and tender an apology publicly within 48 hours for spreading false information, failing which a slander suit will be filed against him which will be dealt with legal action.
On August 4, the former BJP Manipur chief spokesperson, Chongtham Bijoy Singh, who is also a self-styled Socio-Political commentator, made a strong accusation against the BJP’s lone woman Minister Nemcha Kipgen that she had met with Th. Muivah at Hebron in Nagaland, and the NSCN-IM leader asked the Minister to declare Kangpokpi District as Naga territory in return for support from the NSCN-IM.
Vehemently rebutting the accusation, Minister Nemcha Kipgen said that Chongtham Bijoy Singh is a hare-brained illogical person who always make such false accusations for his vested interests.
The minister pointed out that earlier, Chongtham Bijoy Singh had also made such an unfounded allegation against former BJP Manipur president Th. Chaoba Singh and the current Manipur BJP President, Sharda Devi, which had landed him into trouble as he was expelled from the primary membership of the party for violating the party’s rules and regulations.
Minister Nemcha Kipgen then clarified that the allegation Chongtham Bijoy Singh made against her was baseless and false.
“Such a baseless statement without any evidence or credible source to support it during this crisis in the state will attract unwanted circumstances”, the Minister added.
She also said that it will not only further divide the communities but will also create enmity between diverse communities in the state.
Minister Nemcha Kipgen also appealed to the media fraternity to exercise extreme caution and ensure the credibility of any information being disseminated to the public, which can further escalate the situation between communities in the state.
