Assam: Kokrajhar ready to host Durand Cup

Asia's oldest football tournament, the Durand Cup, is set to kick off on August 3 in Kolkata, with Kokrajhar hosting nine matches, including one quarterfinal match.

Preparations are underway in full swing at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) stadium, Kokrajhar, for hosting the prestigious Durand Cup.

BTR Chief Executive Member (CEM) Pramod Boro and his team are on a mission to ensure that the mega sporting extravaganza becomes a grand success.

Speaking to Northeast Live after reviewing the preparedness today, Pramod Boro said,”We are very lucky and we are very happy that Indian Army has chosed Kokrajhar as one of the venue for the tournament. All infrastructure is built and ready. We are ready to host the 132nd edition of the Tournament. We are ready to welcome the Raksha Mantri and other dignitaries.”

The BTR Chief is also hopeful that home team Bodoland FC will emerge as the winners in the event.

Pramod Boro said,”Bodoland FC is very strong now and we are hopeful that Bodoland FC is going to win the 132nd Durand Cup. They are fully prepared now. We are hopeful that this year the Trophy will be in the hands of the Bodoland FC.”

Guwahati and Kokrajhar, two cities in Assam, are brimming with excitement as they prepare to host the historic Durand Cup football tournament.

Matches in Kokrajhar will start on August 5 at SAI Stadium with a spectacular opening ceremony wherein, for the first time in the history of Kokrajhar, special events like a fly past by Air Force aircraft, Sky diving, and martial arts by the Indian Army will be organised.
