Arunachal Pradesh: Within 4 years of inauguration, Byorung Bridge shut for repair and maintenance

The Deputy Commissioner of Yinkiong district in Arunachal, Hage Lailang, has issued a notification announcing the closure of Byorung Bridge, also known as Gandhi Bridge, for vehicular traffic from May 22 to June 12.
The Bridge that is the lifeline of the people residing on the right bank of Siang district has been shut for repair and maintenance work after two bearings of the bridge were damaged.
The bridge over the Siang River that connects Yingkion to Tuting was inaugurated just four years back.
The repair work on the bridge has already started on May 19.
The notification issued by the DC East Siang stated, “The present structural soundness of Byorung (Gandhi) Bridge requires immediate repair of the bridge to avoid causing further damage to the bridge. Complete closure of the traffic over the bridge is necessitated for executing the repairing work smoothly and to avoid any untoward incident endangering the lives and property of the public as well.”
The East Siang DC has further issued directives to be followed during the timeframe.
List of guidelines issued by the DC under the provisions of Section 133 CrPC are:
- The Byorung Bridge shall remain closed for all traffic with effect from May 22nd to June 12th.
- The 1448 BCC (GREF) shall complete the repairing work within the stipulated period.
- The SP, Upper Siang District, has to ensure the execution of this order and take necessary action against violators.
- Fuel tankers and vehicles from outside the district destined for Tuting take the Boleng-Moying-Tuting route.
- Heavy vehicles from Yinkiong were destined for Tuting to take the Ditte-Dimme-Moying to Tuting route.
- Light vehicles and two-wheelers may take the Nubo Bridge route.
- The PWD will open Nubo Bridge for light vehicles.
