NDPP leader Sharingain Longkumer unanimously re-elected Speaker of 14th Nagaland Assembly

He was first elected to the post of Deputy Speaker of the 13th Nagaland Legislative assembly on October 18, 2019

NDPP leader Sharingain Longkumer was unanimously re-elected Speaker of the Fourteenth Nagaland Assembly today.

It may be mentioned here that Sharingain Longkumer was the lone candidate from ruling Peoples Democratic Alliance (PDA) who filed his nomination for the post of Assembly speaker.

Congratulating Sharingain Longkumer on being elected unopposed to the post of Speaker of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly, CM Neiphiu Rio said that the responsibility is being placed on the Speaker to steer and assist the Nagaland Legislative Assembly and guide the Government for legislation and implementation of programmes.”

“With qualification and experience, Longkumer will be able to discharge the functions of the Speaker in a commendable and honorable manner,” CM Rio added.

On assuming the post Sharingain Longkumer thanked all the members of the new Assembly House and assured them that he would carry out his duties and responsibilities with diligence, dignity, and honour as well as the highest level of effectiveness, integrity, and impartiality, protecting the august house’s rich traditions and high standards.

In the greater interest of democracy, he urged all of the House’s members to join and contribute by bringing up issues of public concern.

Speaker Sharingain further urged for the support of all the members of the huse as well as that of the civil administration and Nagaland’s chief secretary in order to carry out his duties and obligations in a routine and official manner for the benefit of the people.

Sharingain Longkumer contested and won from 26-Aonglenden Assembly Constituency in the recently concluded assembly election, defeating his Congress candidate Toshipokba by a margin of 4,390 votes.

He was first elected to the post of Deputy Speaker of the 13th Nagaland Legislative assembly on October 18, 2019 and later, elected unopposed to the post of Speaker on February 7, 2020 following the demise of the then Speaker Late Vikho-o Yhoshu.
