The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) led BJP government in Nagaland is likely to be sworn in on March 7 for a second consecutive term, NDPP leader TR Zeliang said today.
Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live, Zeliang said that the NDPP and BJP will hold a joint meeting in Delhi in a day or two. Neiphiu Rio who is all set to begin his 5th innings as the CM, and other leaders of NDPP will be travelling to New Delhi for talks with the BJP high command and after returning from New Delhi, the swearing-in will be held on March 7.
NDPP today held a meeting with its newly elected MLAs and elected Neiphiu Rio as the legislature party leader.
In the recently concluded elections in the state, NDPP won 25 seats out of the 40 seats it had contested, while its ally BJP won 12 which equals to 37, a comfortable number way beyond the majority mark of 31 needed to form the government in a 60-member Assembly.
NDPP and BJP who had won the 2018 elections and formed the government, had entered into a seat-sharing formula of 40 NDPP and 20 BJP ahead of the elections this time.
