In fresh pre-poll violence in Nagaland, as many as four persons were injured and vehicles were damaged in a clash that broke out between supporters of Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) and National People’s Party (NPP) in 57 Thonoknyu Assembly constituency in Noklak district late yesterday evening.

As per sources, the clash broke out at Thoktsur Junction and Pang village under Noklak.

Supporters of both parties were also engaged in heavy stone-pelting at the rest house sector close to the LJP youth camp and NPP- party office said sources.

Reports said that stones were thrown at NPP Nagaland President, Dr. Andrew Ahoto Sema, and his convoy while returning from Kiphire to Noklak from a district-by-district campaign.

The situation was brought under control by the section of IR battalions of Nagaland Armed Police (NAP) and Border Security Force battalion.

The injured people were taken to a nearby hospital.

It may be mentioned that NPP candidate Benei M Lamthiu is contesting from the Thonoknyu constituency against S Heno (NDPP) and L khumo of Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas).

There are reports that in a separate incident on the same day, the OC of Thonoknyu was reportedly attacked by MLA L Khumo’s supporters while on duty close to the legislator’s home. The police officer suffered a head injury and was taken to hospital immediately.

With barely a week left for the Nagaland Assembly elections on 27 February, at least three incidents of pre-poll violence incidents have been reported in the past four days.
