ULFA Leader Anup Chetia says peace talks with Government of India in last stage, wants Paresh Baruah-led group in negotiation process for permanent peace in Assam

The ULFA today declared that their peace talks with Government of India has reached the last stage and a final settlement can be arrived at after a few remaining points are sorted out and added that Assam could see permanent peace if the ULFA Independent faction headed by Paresh Barua could also be brought to the negotiating table.

ULFA General Secretary Anup Chetia said that after 5 hours of discussions with the peace interlocutors and officials of the Union Home Ministry, several issues were given final shape that they are in the process of discussions with legal experts on some of the issues.

Chetia added that there was need to go through the Brahma Committee Reports on the land policy which is one of their key demands. Meanwhile, The ULFA has also raised the issue of their missing cadres in Bhutan. Chetia said that the Centre has taken up the matter with the Bhutanese Government.

The ULFA General Secretary also said the ULFA delegation has raised the issue about the disappearance of Rebati Phukhan, who was widely believed to have been engaged in efforts to bring the exiled ULFA Independent leader Paresh Baruah to the Negotiating table.
