Faizan death: Calcutta HC asks police to file report

Faizan death case: Calcutta High Court directs West Bengal police to file report on probe conducted into death of student from Assam.

In a big development, the Calcutta High Court has directed the West Bengal police to submit a report citing the outcomes of the probe into the death of Assam boy Faizan Ahmed at IIT-Kharagpur.

The court was hearing a petition moved by Faizan’s father, seeking a proper probe by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) into the death.

Besides, the Calcutta High Court has also asked the Paschim Medinipur SP to depute a senior officer to oversee the probe into the death of the 3rd year IIT-Kharagpur student.

The semi-decomposed body of Faizan Ahmed was found in his hostel room on October 14. Following this, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote to his West Bengal counterpart Mamata Banerjee on October 20.

In his letter, the Assam Chief Minister had requested Mamata Banerjee for her intervention into the Faizan death case and thereby ensure a thorough probe into the circumstances that led to the incident.

The semi-decomposed body of Faizan Ahmed has been recovered from his hostel room.
The student from Tinsukia in Assam had moved into the hostel recently.

Police suspect the 23-year-old student, Faizan Ahmed, died by suicide. Faizan Ahmed hails from Eastern Assam’s Tinsukia district.
