Naga Issue: CM Rio seeks President’s support to resolve issue

Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio today sought the support of the highest office in India, that of the president, in resolving the Naga issue.

President Murmu is in Nagaland on a 2-day visit.

CM Rio further said that everyone is hopeful of an early solution to the Naga Political issue which will provide a boost to the youths and people of the state to contribute more to the nation’s economy.

Ceasefire and dialogue with the Naga political groups have been continuing for about 26 years. We seek your support in resolving the pending Naga political issue, Rio added.

Meanwhile, President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated and laid the base for close to a dozen projects during the civic reception in Kohima.

Addressing the gathering President Murmu said that this was her second visit to the Northeast in less than a month and this highlighted the new national commitment to the people of the region.

She also expressed happiness that her visit coincided with the inauguration of various projects related to education, road infrastructure, and finance in the state.

President Murmu also said that with 70 percent of the farmers of Nagaland practicing organic farming, the Northeast has the potential to become the organic food basket of India.

The second day of her Nagaland visit will see the President visit the historic World War II cemetery and Kigwema Village where stalls have been set up by the Nagaland State Rural Livelihood Mission. The President will also interact with the Self Help Groups.

The president is slated to leave for Mizoram later tomorrow.
