Nadda had formally welcomed the MLAs into the BJP at his office, in the presence of Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh.

The 5 Manipur JD (U) MLAs who had merged with the ruling BJP, landed at the Imphal Airport today. After meeting BJP national president JP Nadda in New Delhi yesterday, the 5 JD(U) MLAs returned to Manipur with Chief Minister Biren Singh.

Earlier yesterday, Nadda had formally welcomed the MLAs into the BJP at his office, in the presence of Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh and state BJP president A Sharda Devi.

The five MLAs include Khumukcham Joykisan Singh of Thangmeiband, Ngursanglur Sanate of Tipaimukh, Achab Uddin of Jiribam, Thangjam Arunkumar of Wangkhei, and L M Khaute of Churachandpur who merged with the BJP on Friday following a notification issued by the Manipur Assembly.

It may be mentioned here that the JD-U won six seats in the Assembly elections, but now has been reduced to only one MLA after the five members deserted the party.

On the other hand, the BJP which won 32 seats now has 37 MLAs in the 60-member Manipur Assembly.
