The Election Commission of India will hold a virtual meeting with the top officials and representatives of political parties in Manipur today.
This virtual meeting assumes significance as the ECI will take stock of poll preparedness, keeping in mind the COVID situation along with the vaccination status of the state.

It may be mentioned that the Commission has already visited other states where elections are due this year, including Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Goa in the last few days to take stock of the situation.
Earlier, the Commission, in a letter to the Chief Secretaries of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa, Manipur and Punjab, expressed that the polling personnel to be deployed in these states should be fully vaccinated and those eligible for the second dose should be administered the jabs on a priority basis.

Meanwhile, the panel is likely to announce the election dates for the five states in the first half of January.
