Nagaland minister and state BJP President Temjen Imna Along on Thursday termed the constitution of the core committee to pursue the Naga Political issue  with the Centre as a significant move.

Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live, Along said it is extremely important for political parties and legislators to shed their differences if any over the issue.

“It is important for independent legislators and political parties be it in the ruling govt or opposition to shed their differences on the issue, as they also represent our people. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, both leaders of the opposition and the deputy Chief Minister will steer the committee forward,” said Temjen Imna Along.

Along also maintained that the Joint Legislative Forum (JLF) has been existing and will continue to do so. Since all 60 members cannot be present everywhere, this Core Committee has been formed to further pursue the matter, he said.

The Nagaland government yesterday decided to institute a committee comprising Opposition leaders to pursue the lingering Naga peace agreement and the Naga political issue with the Centre.

The panel, headed by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, is expected to meet on June 19 in Dimapur to discuss the way forward as the Naga agreement remains elusive.
