The Naga Rising, a group formed recently to take up the Naga issue has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to appoint a group of Naga interlocutors for early resolution of the decades-long Naga peace talks and help avoid the risk of negotiations breaking down.

The group, in its letter to the Prime Minister, said that the Naga interlocutors should be chosen on the basis of their wide acceptability and ability to unify the Naga socio-political divide and who can work alongside Centre appointed interlocutor and Governor of Nagaland RN Ravi.

TNR said that the Naga interlocutors should facilitate a sustained dialogue – even beyond the solution – among a larger pool of stakeholders in a climate of transparency and mutual trust, which would in turn help in successful outcome of the Naga Peace Process.

However, the group suggested that the Naga interlocutors would not participate in the negotiations, but only work with the larger Naga Civil Society in facilitating the way forward.

It may be mentioned here that the Centre has already said that the Naga Peace talks are an advanced stage, with Nagaland Governor RN Ravi saying that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked him to complete the Naga Peace process within 3 months.
