Padmashri Dr Ilyas Ali Felicitated on the Occasion of 261st Army Medical Corps Raising Day

“I am honoured to have been felicitated,” Dr Ilyas Ali said.
Padmashri Dr Ilyas Ali, a leading surgeon of Assam known for his pioneering work in family planning and birth control measures, was felicitated at Dinjan (Tinsukia) Military cantonment on the occasion of the 261st Army Medical Corps Raising Day.

“I am honoured to have been felicitated,” Dr Ilyas Ali said.
On the occasion, rich tributes were paid to Late Major Laishram Jyotin Singh.
It was a moment of immense pride and reverence as we paid tribute to Major Laishram Jyotin Singh, who was posthumously awarded the Ashoka Chakra for his extraordinary bravery and ultimate sacrifice for the nation,” Dr Ilyas Ali said after the felicitation ceremony.
Dr Ali delivered a speech on ‘Healers of Viksit Bharat’, celebrating the selfless service of our military medical professionals who stand as the backbone of battlefield healthcare and national well-being.
Dr Ilyas Ali was conferred the Padma Shri in 2019 for his contributions towards family planning, creating awareness about it and its positive impact on physical and financial health of families, particularly in the remote areas of Assam.

He is the founder of the Emergency Medicine Department at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital.
