The condition of top RTI activist and president of Civil Society Women’s Organisation, Agnes Kharshiing who is undergoing treatment at NEIGRIHMS is said to be stable now, she was rushed in a critical condition following a brutal assault yesterday.

According to sources, doctors are still closely monitoring her condition which is said to have improved a bit today.

Meanwhile, over 24 hours after the incident, police are yet to make any arrest in the brutal assault on Kharshiing in East Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya.

Kharshiing was attacked at a place called Tuber Shoh-Shrieh, a coal dumping area along the National Highway near Lad Rymbai in East Jaintia Hills, shortly after she gave a tip off to police about the presence of coal laden trucks in the area, leading to seizure of as many as 9 coal laden trucks yesterday.

Significantly, the attack on Civil Society Women’s Organization president Kharshiing came barely a day after she exposed rampant transportation of coal in the state despite a National Green Tribunal ban on coal mining in Meghalaya.

Another CSWO member, Amita Sangma, who was accompanying Kharshiing was also brutally assaulted by the miscreants.
