NSCN-K leader Khango Konyak is at Yongkhao village in Nagaland’s Mon district and according to reports is in talks with Naga civil society bodies in a bid to resume the ceasefire and peace talks with the Government of India.

In fact, it has been learnt that upon his arrival in Mon, Khango met several Naga civil society leaders and is understood to have entrusted the Naga Mothers’ Association to act as an intermediary and discuss the issue of resumption of ceasefire and talks between the group and the government of India.

It is to be noted here that senior BJP leader Ram Madhav during his recent visit to Nagaland had told Northeast Live that the Centre is waiting for groups like the NSCN-K to join the peace process following which a solution could be arrived at without much delay.

NSCN-K leader Khango Konyak was impeached in a bloodless coup by leaders representing the Myanmarese Nagas who replaced him with 45-year-old Yung Aung, the nephew of NSCN-K founder SS Khaplang, as the chairman of the outfit.

Konyak, however, was allowed a safe passage to leave for a place of his choice. And speculations for the time being are that Konyak is not joining any other insurgent outfit but looking to join the peace process.

After his arrival in his native Yongkhao village earlier this month, Khango Konyak and his close aids held a meeting with Naga mothers association and other civil society representatives.

At the meeting held on October 16, Khango Konyak is understood to have entrusted the Naga mothers association to act as an intermediary and discuss the issue of resumption of ceasefire and talks between the group and the govt of India.
