Mizoram Petrol Pumps to Go Dry As Oil Tankers Decide to Go Off the Road From Sept 17

MOTDA and PETUM said that the NH-306 and NH-6 are in such a poor state which makes it dangerous for tankers to ply on the roads.
Petrol pumps of Mizoram might go dry as the Mizoram Oil Tanker Driver Association (MOTDA) and the Petroleum Entrepreneurs’ and Transporters’ Union of Mizoram (PETUM) have declared a strike starting September 17, 2024 citing poor road conditions on National Highways 306 (highway that connects Assam and Mizoram) and 6 (a primary national highway that connects Assam, Meghalaya, and Mizoram) as a major factor.
In a crucial meeting held on the evening of September 13, the two organisations said that the roads are in such a poor state which makes it dangerous for tankers to ply on the roads.
They said that the deteriorating condition of the roads has led to frequent breakdowns and costly repairs for the tankers, which, in turn, has increased the cost of transporting petrol and diesel.
Moreover, many tankers are currently stuck on the highway.
For the safety of vehicle drivers, MOTDA and PETUM concluded that until the highway between Kawnpui and Sairang towns are repaired, no tankers will ply on the roads to transport oil.
Many petrol pumps are already running out of fuel forcing them to close down.
Not just petrol pumps, even grocery stores are reporting a shortage of several items as trucks are stuck on the highway.
