Hundreds of protesters took to the streets in Assam’s Karbi Anglong today to voice their outrage against the ongoing oppression of minorities in Bangladesh. The protest led by the Hindu rights organization Banga Sena witnessed protesters raising slogans, condemning the attacks and demanding immediate intervention from the Indian government.
The agitation was sparked by allegations that the Bangladeshi government has been turning a blind eye to the increasing persecution of minorities, including forced conversions, land grabbing, and violence.
Banga Sena leaders condemned the attacks and urged the Indian government to take up the issue with Bangladesh at the highest level. They demanded that India ensure the protection and security of minorities in the neighboring country, stressing the urgent need for diplomatic intervention.
It is to be mentioned that the Bangladesh National Hindu Grand Alliance, a non-political Hindu religious organization reported attacks and threats at 278 locations across 48 districts since August 5th in the crisis hit nation. These incidents have heightened fears among minority communities and led to calls for stronger international pressure on Bangladesh.
In response to the rising tensions, Professor Muhammad Yunus, Head of the Interim Government, visited the Dhakeshwari Temple in Dhaka earlier this week, where he assured the Hindu community of equal rights and security. He also held a phone conversation with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during which he reaffirmed his commitment to protecting minorities and ensuring their safety.
Despite these assurances, the situation remains tense, with organizations like Banga Sena continuing to push for more concrete action to prevent further violence against minorities in Bangladesh. The protesters in Karbi Anglong made it clear that they expect nothing less than immediate and decisive steps from both the Bangladeshi and Indian governments to address the crisis
