This move comes after concerns were raised by the Assam government over the slow progress of the stretch, which has faced significant delays.

Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari informed that 11 new contractors have been hired to expedite the completion of the 127 km stretch Jorhat-Dibrugarh national highway that is being upgraded to a 4-lane highway.

This move comes after concerns were raised by the Assam government over the slow progress of the stretch, which has faced significant delays.

In a letter to Sarma, Gadkari explained that the project’s delay was due to various factors, including land acquisition challenges, shortages of raw materials like sand and silt, and underperforming contractors.

Gadkari noted that the stretch from Numaligarh to Jorhat has already been completed. “It was decided in our recent meeting to facilitate efficient execution, the section from Jorhat to Dibrugarh, has been divided into smaller fragments and work is ongoing with 11 contractors onboarded,” he said.

The highway project is a major infrastructure initiative, involving the construction of nine vehicular underpasses, six pedestrian underpasses, and one flyover. These structures require substantial materials such as sand, earth, and boulders.

Gadkari emphasized that the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) has been directed to address these challenges swiftly.

Gadkari assured Sarma that his ministry is committed to resolving any issues and ensuring the timely completion of the project, which is crucial for Assam’s infrastructure development.
