Meghalaya Congress Suspends 2 of Its MLAs for Alleged Anti-Party Activities

Two MLAs are among the three who were reportedly looking to jump ship to the NPP.

The Meghalaya Congress has suspended two of its MLAs Gabriel Wahlang and Charles Marngar for 6 years for alleged anti-party activities.

In the suspension letters issued, the Congress accused the MLAs of being close with the ruling MDA government.

It may be mentioned that the two MLAs are among the three who were reportedly looking to jump ship to the NPP.

The suspension came after MPCC president Vincent Pala today issued a stern warning against any legislators planning to leave the party.

“We did not spare anyone who left the party. The party has a set of rules and a set of practices. It always maintains the same form. So we have warned the MLAs that whatever we have done before, the same action will be taken against them,” Pala said.

Stating that the ruling government, which holds 47 out of 60 assembly seats, does not need Congress MLAs and just trying to undermine the Congress Party’s position because it is aware of the fact that public sentiment is strongly in favour of Congress both in Meghalaya and nationwide, Pala urged party leaders not to fall into the trap set by the ruling dispensation.
