Body Of Former Sikkim Deputy Speaker RC Poudyal Found In Bangladesh

Poudyal suddenly went missing from his residence in Ranipool on July 7.

Deputy Speaker of the Sikkim Assembly and first Forest Minister of the state, Ram Chandra Poudyal Jyu who was missing for the last 10 days has been found dead near Teesta River along the India-Bangladesh border.

Poudyal’s body was identified through the watch he was wearing and it has been suspected that he must have been washed away by the floodwaters of Teesta River, said Karma Gyasto Bhutia, Superintendent of Pakyong Police Station.

His last rites will be performed at his ancestral residence in Chota Singtam today.

Taking to social media, Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang condoled his demise and wrote, “I am deeply saddened by the sudden demise of the Late Shri R.C. Poudyal Jyu, a statesman and distinguished senior political leader who had served the Sikkim Government in various capacities, including as a minister, and was the leader of the Jhulke Gham Party. I extend my heartfelt condolences to his bereaved family and pray for the departed soul to rest in eternal peace. Om Shanti!”

Poudyal Jyu who was also a prominent leader of the Democratic Movement of Sikkim (DMS) suddenly went missing from his residence in Ranipool on July 7.

To trace Poudyal and ensure his safe return, earlier the Pakyong Police had constituted a Special Investigation Team to investigate the mysterious disappearance of him.

The Pakyong Police even announced a cash reward for anyone with a lead in the case or who shares information about Poudyal’s whereabouts.
