With just a little over a month to go for the crucial and historic Urban Local Body (municipal) polls, questions which are arising now are about the political equations and if allies NDPP and BJP will adopt a seat sharing plan similar to the assembly polls.

The Nagaland BJP has batted for a 40-20 seat sharing formula between the NDPP and BJP for the upcoming Nagaland ULB polls, a senior BJP leader said that this suggestion has been put forth to the BJP high command.

Notably, Nagaland BJP President Benjamin Yepthomi, Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton and a host of BJP Legislators are currently camping in Delhi awaiting the decision of the BJP high command for the upcoming ULB elections.

Speaking on the matter, a senior BJP leader informed that the delegation suggested that as per the pre poll 40-20 seat sharing formula between the NDPP and BJP, the same seat sharing arrangement has been suggested for the ULB polls as well.

Out of the 40 seats in which NDPP won in the 2023 state assembly elections, BJP will not contest, likewise, out of the 20 seats in which BJP won, the NDPP will not contest, the senior leader stated, adding that the remaining seats will be shared among other political parties under the PDA government.

Earlier yesterday, the BJP delegation held meetings with BJP National President JP Nadda and other senior party leaders wherein, the delegation shared their views regarding the ULB Polls.

And prior to leaving for New Delhi, the Nagaland BJP delegation also held a meeting with Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and senior NDPP leaders wherein the 40-20 seat sharing arrangement was agreed upon.

However, the senior BJP leader added that this is only a suggestion and the final decision will be taken by the party high command.
