Joyanta Basumatary is contesting Lok Sabha elections for the first time.
Joyanta Basumatary, the UPPL candidate who is contesting the 18th Lok Sabha elections from the Kokrajhar seat in Assam will win with a huge majority of votes, said Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the BTR, Pramod Boro.
Kokrajhar is among the 4 remaining seats in Assam where voting is underway today. The other seats are- Barpeta, Dhubri and Guwahati.
UPPL is an ally of the BJP, therefore Basumatary is the consensus candidate for NDA.
Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live, Pramod Boro said, “I do not think there is a contest in Kokrajhar. For the first time, all social, student, and religious organisations have extended their support to NDA consensus candidate for the seat, Joyanta Basumatary of the UPPL. And they are working around the clock to help him win. I think we (UPPL) will have a clean sweep. As a democracy, there are many candidates competing for seats, but UPPL will win with a huge margin.”
Boro also thanked Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the public for campaigning extensively for Joyanta Basumatary for over a month in the region.
Voting in Kokrajhar has begun at 7 am. Voting is peaceful so far as no report of untoward incident has come in yet, said Pramod Boro.
Joyanta Basumatary is up against former Deputy Chief of BTC, Kampa Borgoyary of BPF, Gorjon Mushahary of Congress and 9 others.
He is contesting Lok Sabha elections for the first time.
He contested the 2021 Assembly elections in Assam as UPPL candidate from the Sidli constituency of Chirang district and won the seat by defeating sitting BPF MLA and three-time minister Chandan Brahma.
