Former Nagaland Chief Minister and veteran politician Dr SC Jamir has reacted to the ENPO’s call to boycott the ensuing Lok Sabha polls.

Jamir stated that once the Naga political issue is resolved, issues of the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organization and other issues pertaining to the state will also be resolved amicably and satisfactorily.

In his statement SC Jamir said, “To boycott election, to close down these offices, to close down schools, so are we not injuring ourselves? Instead of doing that why not you also have patience. When there is a solution of this Naga problem bit by bit and once the Naga problem is resolved, side by side all these other issues will be resolved amicably and satisfactorily.”

Jamir pointed out that after Nagaland attained statehood the Eastern Region was given the status of a Regional Council which was necessary at that point of time. However, the Eastern leaders after some years voluntarily dissolved the Regional Council and participated in the state general election.

Jamir said, “After dissolving this Regional Council voluntarily by themselves now they are only repeating, they want to revive the same kind of arrangement after a passage of nearly 50 years.”

He said as far as politics is concerned Eastern people were given ample opportunities.

“Why should we point fingers at others? So should we not re-examine our approach? What are we doing because assembly is a forum where they can speak up, where you can place your problem. But have they ever put up their problems as they are doing now in the form this ENPO organisation,” Jamir added.

Jamir suggested that ENPO leaders should be proud to be a part of Nagaland which was jointly founded nearly 50 years ago and said that ENPO problem is not a political problem.

In this context Jamir said, “I would suggest to the ENPO leadership that be proud to be part of this Nagaland which we have jointly founded nearly 50 years ago. Secondly, your problem is not political problem. You still feel that you are backward, first remove that level of backwardness, you are not backward. You are much more advanced, wiser than others.”

He was of the view that instead of creating situations, the ENPO leaders should sit across the table with the Government and discuss what really are the problems faced by the people.
