Manipur: Heavy cross firing reported from Kakching and Churachandpur districts

The unrest in the state of Manipur is showing no signs of abating as heavy cross firing has been reported from the peripheral areas of Kakching and Churachandpur districts near Sugnu village since late night.

Exchange of fire erupted at three different places in the peripheral areas of Imphal East and Kangpokpi namely Pukhao Shantipur Village, Khamenlok and peripheral areas of Kakching and Churachandpur districts near Sugnu Village.

As per inputs, several bombs went off and exchange of gunfire erupted around 9:30 pm last night between armed men from the hills and the valley. However, no casualties have been reported.

Besides, firing also reportedly took place at Napat Thongkhong under Sugnu Police Station in Kakching district.
It may be mentioned that on Thursday, 2 people were killed and over 40 were injured after clashes with security forces, as a mob of 300-400 people attacked the office of Churachandpur SP and the mini secretariat complex that houses the DC’s office and residence nearby.
