In a sensational development in Naga insurgent politics, the NSCN-K has impeached its Chairman Khango Konyak and has allowed him to leave the headquarters in Myanmar’s Sagaing Division by giving him a safe passage.
The insurgent group has issued a press statement on Friday saying Khango Konyak was impeached for ‘anti-party activities’.
In fact, the NSCN-K accused him for being dictatorial and not involving the collective leadership in administering the outfit.
Interestingly however, Naga insurgency watchers suspect it was actually a bloodless coup that saw the ouster of Khango Konyak, an Indian Naga from Nagaland’s Mon district.
The new Chairman who has since been elected is said to be a 45 year old martial art veteran Yung Aung, nephew of the NSCN-K founding chief SS Khaplang who died in June last year.
Khango Konyak, according to reports, has left Myanmar accompanied by a few loyal supporters.
