Nagaland Governor RN Ravi was transferred as the new Governor of Tamil Nadu late on Thursday, in a series of gubernatorial changes.

In a press statement, the Rashtrapati Bhawan yesterday said the President has appointed three Governors, besides accepting the resignation of one.

Besides Ravi’s appointment, Banwarilal Purohit, who was Governor of Tamil Nadu has been sent to Punjab, and Lt Gen Gurmit Singh has been appointed the Uttarakhand Governor after incumbent Baby Rani Maurya resigned.

The key appointment is that of RN Ravi’s, who has been an interlocutor in the ongoing Naga peace talks since August 2014. He was appointed as the Governor of Nagaland in July 2019.

Since last year, however, sharp differences have emerged between him and the functionaries of the Isak-Muivah faction of National Socialist Council of Nagaland and some sections of the Naga civil society.

Ravi, a retired IPS officer from the 1976 batch of Kerala cadre is a native of Bihar.

The order said Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi has now been given the additional charge of Nagaland, until regular arrangements are made.
