The week-long complete lockdown in Gangtok Municipal Corporation area has come into force in the State Capital from Monday morning and will continue till September 27.
The Sikkim government on Saturday announced a complete lockdown in Gangtok for seven days following a rapid surge in the number of COVID-19 cases.
The fresh lockdown in Gangtok has been imposed as a measure to curb the rapid rise in number of COVID-19 cases in the State Capital.
The streets in Gangtok wore a deserted look as movement of all private and public transport vehicles, except those in essential services have been restricted.
Except for medical and grocery shops, all other shops and business establishments including bars and restaurants shall also remain closed during this lockdown period.
On the other hand, Government offices shall continue to function as per the guidelines issued by the Centre. State Government offices will remain open with up to 30% staff strength during the lockdown period.
