The Assam Police has recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition which were concealed in a forest area in the state’s Chirang district.

Two AK-47 rifles, 3 magazines, 174 live rounds of AK series rifles and 7 live cartridge of INSAS rifle were recovered. It may be mentioned that a series of recoveries have been made in different parts of the Bodo Territorial Council in the past few days.

Police suspect that the arms and ammunition may belong to an armed group. However, investigations are on into the matter.

The recovery of the arms and ammunition raises questions on whether any armed group is still active in the Bodo heartland. This assumes significance as all Bodo rebel groups have come to the mainstream.
