PM Modi on maiden visit to Kaziranga National Park, enjoys 80 minute safari

The Prime Minister will dedicate the tunnel to the nation at a function to be held at Baisakhi in West Kameng district.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in Assam, and he is on his maiden visit to the world renowned Kaziranga National Park, where the Prime Minister is taking an 80 minute jeep Safari.

He was greeted by a sea of supporters upon his arrival in Kaziranga yesterday.

Shortly after arrival, PM Modi participated in a road show from the temporary helipad at Panbari in Bokakhat, en-route to the Assam Police Guest House at Kohora range of the Kaziranga National Park, where he stayed for the night.

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma received PM Modi in Tezpur and accompanied him onwards to Kaziranga.

Significantly, this is the first visit by a PM to Kaziranga after it was upgraded to a National Park in 1974.

There is tremendous excitement among the wildlife community that looks after the 900 square km park that is home to 2,600 one horned rhinos, besides other exotic animals like the Royal Bengal Tiger, water buffalos, a variety of deers and a whole lot of avian species.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is accompanying the Prime Minister during the 80-minute safari.

Prime Minister Modi will also witness a line-up of draught elephants at the park.

The park rangers and other wildlife staff would treat the Prime Minister to a rendition of the famous song Hastir Kanya or Elephant’s Daughter.

Gauripur royal and one of Assam’s popular folk singers, Pratima Barua Pandey was fondly referred to as Hastir Kanya.

A platoon of women forest guards is also slated to present a salute to the Prime Minister. The authorities have earmarked 2 designated spots inside the sprawling park for the Prime Minister’s safari to halt and take in the majestic view inside Kaziranga.

From Kaziranga, Prime Minister Modi will embark on a day-long visit to Arunachal Pradesh today, where he will inaugurate several development projects including the Sela Tunnel which will provide all-weather connectivity to Tawang bordering China.

The Prime Minister will dedicate the tunnel to the nation at a function to be held at Baisakhi in West Kameng district.

Apart from it, the prime minister will also lay the foundation stone for around 20 development projects, before returning to Jorhat at around 1.30 pm where he will inaugurate an 84-foot-high statue of legendary Ahom warrior Lachit Borphukan at Hollonga Pathar.

The Prime Minister will also address a public meeting at Meleng Meteli Pothar in Jorhat and will virtually inaugurate, dedicate, and lay the foundation stones of several projects.

The Prime Minister will inaugurate the Tinsukia Medical College and Hospital, a Child Care Unit at B. Baruah Cancer Institute, Guwahati; Barauni to Guwahati natural gas pipeline and two crude oil pumping stations of Oil India Limited.

The Prime Minister will virtually lay the foundation stone of Sivasagar Medical College and Hospital; Guwahati and Digboi Refinery expansion projects including IOCL’s Bethkuchi Terminal in Guwahati.

Besides, prime minister Modi will dedicate to the nation the doubling of railway lines from Dhupdhara to Chaygaon and New Bongaigaon to Sarbhog.

In addition, prime minister Modi will also virtually perform the ‘Griha Pravesh’ ceremony for over 5 lakh 50 thousand homes constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.
