The Congress and the Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura are going ahead with a pre-poll alliance for the Lok Sabha elections.
This was informed to the media by Tripura Congress party chief Pradyut Debbarma. Debbarma stated that a Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between both the sides with consent of the Congress high command and INPT president Bijoy Hrangkhawl.
The alliance is also targeted to the autonomous district council polls. Both Congress and INPT had earlier declared names of two candidates for both the Lok Sabha seats in the state. But after Rahul Gandhi’s recent visit to the state, the INPT became supportive of the Congress.
Hrangkhawl told the media that Rahul Gandhi has accepted most of their demands. This includes direct funding for the autonomous district council, scrapping of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, script for the local Kokborok language among others.
