A series of moral policing incidents have started to raise many eyebrows on the law and order scenario in the state. The latest incident has been reported from Kathiatoli in Assam’s Nagaon district where a couple was physically assaulted by a moral policing group.
The incident happened on Saturday evening at Jumormur village when a moral policing group tied up a couple and assaulted them for allegedly having an affair. The worst part is that the group of assaulters also included women apart from men.
However, Police managed to rescue the couple early next morning and got them admitted at a local hospital in Nagaon for treatment. Meanwhile, police have launched a manhunt and have arrested eight persons so far in connection with the incident.
The arrested persons have been identified as Kirtinath Hazarika, Atul Barua, Bhaben Das, Suren Das, Jadav Baruah, Deep Das, Deben Chandra Das and Krishnamohan Nath.
