Will Eastern Nagaland join Hornbill Fest?

Hectic preparations are underway for the iconic Hornbill festival. But, the big question is whether 7 tribes of E. Nagaland will participate?

The Nagaland government will meet representatives of the Eastern Naga People’s Organisation or the ENPO to discuss on the latter’s decision to abstain from taking part in the Hornbill Festival. This was informed by Advisor of Nagaland Tourism department Khehovi Yepthomi.

The official added that thte state government will take a decision when he was asked if the festival will take place without the participation of the 7 tribes of Eastern Nagaland and refused to make any further comment.

However, Khekovi Yepthomi is hopeful that the ENPO leaders will understand the issue and things will come to a conclusion.
Advisor Tourism Khehovi Yepthomi asserted that the Government will meet the Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO) with regard to their 14 October resolution to abstain participation from Hornbill Festival.

Yepthomi informed this after a coordination meeting held with the Tribal Hohos/ Organisation in Kohima, to deliberate on the upcoming 23rd Edition of Hornbill Festival.

Meanwhile, the Advisor said the 23rd Edition of the Hornbill Festival will be celebrated in a befitting manner and informed leaders from International and National will be attending the festival.

The tribal hohos has been directed to start maintenence of their respective Morungs and necessary preparations are underway. The department have earmarked Rs.1.50 lakh for all the Hohos.

During the meeting, the tribal hohos shared similar views and concerns, the Hohos also apprised the department of their grievances.

The seven tribal hohos of the Eastern Nagaland abstained from attending the coordination meeting.
