Several commenters questioned why Sharma was hiring an IIT student for a video editing role.

Bengaluru-based YouTuber Ishan Sharma, who boasts over 1.5 million subscribers, recently revealed that a candidate he had offered the position of video editor backed out at the last minute, despite being offered what he described as “excellent pay.” The candidate, an IIT student, declined the offer citing personal reasons related to his education.

Taking to X , Sharma shared a screenshot of the email sent by the applicant. In the email, the student expressed gratitude for the offer but explained that leaving IIT at this point in his life was not the right decision. “I want to at least complete one or two more years here. This is my final decision. It won’t change,” the student wrote, emphasizing that the decision was not financially motivated.

In his post, Sharma sought advice from his followers, stating, “Tried hiring a video editor. He signed the offer letter and then sends me this email. This has happened multiple times. What should I do now?”

The YouTuber’s post quickly gained traction, accumulating over 32,000 views. It sparked a lively discussion in the comments section, with opinions divided. Some users speculated that the student may have turned down the job due to a low salary offer, despite Sharma’s assertion that the pay was generous.

“You honestly pay very little, Ishan. Some of your previous editors were my friends, and they quit to join my team for better pay,” one user claimed. Another commented, “Not a hater, but I’ve heard from a few guys that you pay quite low to editors considering your brand value. Could that be the reason?”

Several commenters questioned why Sharma was hiring an IIT student for a video editing role. “Maybe hire actual video editors instead of students from technical colleges like IITs. You really expect those people to leave their degrees behind, which they worked years for, just for a video editing gig?” one user wrote.

Others felt that the student made the right decision in prioritizing his education over a role with a content creator. “Leaving IIT for an individual content creator, who is still not a brand, isn’t a good decision. He did the right thing,” another user commented.

Some users advised Sharma to consider hiring professional video editors instead of students. “Go for professionals, pay them a good salary. They will stick around. These college kids change their minds every hour,” one commenter suggested.
