Who is Lalrinpuii? the only woman minister in Lalduhoma’s Cabinet

Mizoram today got a new government with Lalduhoma as the 6th Chief Minister of the state. Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) chief Lalduhoma and his 11 cabinet ministers including a woman minister were sworn in today.
Lalrinpuii, the only woman in the Lalduhoma cabinet became the third woman in Mizoram to be inducted in the state’s council of ministers.
She was administered oath of office by Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati in the swearing-in ceremony at Raj Bhavan complex in Aizawl along with the other 11 ministers including CM Lalduhoma.
Lalrinpuii won from Lunglei East seat defeating Congress candidate Joseph Lalhimpuia by a margin of 1646 votes.
She has been allocated–Health and Family Welfare Department, Social Welfare, Tribal Affairs, Women and Child Development Department and Tourism department.
Lalhlimpui Hmar was the first woman Minister of State in Mizoram in 1987. After a gap of 30 years, in 2017, Lalawmpuii Chawngkunga, president of the Mizoram Pradesh Youth Congress Committee became the second woman inducted into the state’s council of ministers.
Who is Lalrinpuii?
Born in 1961, Lalrinpuii completed her Bachelor of Arts (BA) in 2002 from Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University (CSJMU), Kanpur. She is married to Sapthanga Khawlhring.
In the 2018 election, she contested as an Independent candidate from the same seat, but lost to Lawmawma Tochhawng of MNF by just 72 votes.
