Watch: Brave shopkeeper traps robber inside shop

First Published: 17th June, 2023 19:56 IST

The CCTV camera recorded how the shopkeeper foiled a knifepoint robbery

The video shows a robber, now identified as Malcolm Trimble, entering a general store and carrying a kitchen knife. He picks up a pack of beer and threatens the shopkeeper with the knife. However, instead of passively allowing the robber to leave, the shopkeeper races out of the shop and closes the door.

The robber uses brute force to pull the door open but by this time the shopkeeper activates the closing of shop’s metal shutters. The thief tries to slide out of the shutters but gets stuck. What makes this video even more interesting is that the robber tries to drink beer even as he is stuck under the shutter.

The Durham Constabulary shares this footage on their Facebook account and wrote, “Officers arrived within three minutes of the 999 call to find the suspect lying in the street with his head inside the shop. They released the shutters and promptly arrested him. At Durham Crown Court yesterday, 30-year-old Trimble was jailed for three years and four months after admitting attempted robbery and possession of a knife.”

Commenting on this post, a Facebook user wrote, “I think thats the most satisfying thing I’ve seen posted for a long old time… Always look foward to seeing what the courts tickle him with.” Another person wrote, “Well done to all concerned but he should be getting at least 5 years for knife crime. He will continue with his life of crime when he’s released”.
