Vaccination 12-14-year-olds begin from March, says India’s immunisation advisory body

India would begin vaccination for 12 to 14-year-olds from March this year, said Dr. NK Arora, Chairman of the central government’s COVID-19 Working Group of the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (NTAGI).

The central government has approved two Covid-19 vaccines for young adults: Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin and Zydus Cadila’s ZyCoV-D (12 and above).

India, for example, began its vaccine campaign against Covid-19 on January 16 of last year. Since then, the country has given out 157 crore doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.

On December 25, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that beginning January 3, the country will begin vaccinating teenagers aged 15 to 18.

Taking to Twitter, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, wrote “Amazing enthusiasm among Young India for #COVID19 vaccination Syringe. Over 3.5 crore children between the 15-18 Age group have received 1st dose of COVID-19 vaccine, since 3rd January. Congratulations to all my young friends who have got vaccinated. #SabkoVaccineMuftVaccine”

Meanwhile, a ‘precautionary dosage’ (booster dose) of Covid-19 vaccinations is being given to healthcare and frontline workers across the country. Those over the age of 60 who have co-morbidities are also eligible for a ‘precautionary dose.’
